The architectural styles
Architectural symbols of the "Belle Epoque", palaces and palatial hotels evoking fantasy and luxury, the stuff of dreams, a real ode to pleasure. The seafronts - the Croisette in Cannes, Promenade des Anglais in Nice, Promenade du Soleil in Menton - have kept their line-up of palatial hotels. Their monumental façades decorated like wedding-cakes, the lobbies and receptions all reflect the intense high-society life-style for which they set the scene.

In 1888, Stéphen Liegeard invents the name "French Riviera". It becomes then the inescapable and popular meeting of the world elite, the winter, then the summer. It From these brilliant years, we still have testimonials to a life-style that will always remain an illustrious part of the Côte d'Azur's heritage.

 
 

It's surprising to find on the Côte d'Azur such an extraordinary blend of styles and eras, fads and fashion too.

 

   
  A small corner of Russia
   
 

At the end of the 19th century, the Russian community was to transform a patch of the coast between Cannes and Menton into an "annex" of the Black Sea shore. Tsars, Empresses, Grand-Dukes, aristocrats and the intelligentsia wrote here a few dazzling pages in their history, from 1850/1860. Some testimonials still remain.
