Forts and itineraries

Because of rising tension between France and Italy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a series of forts were built along high mountain ridges (Maginot line). Offering breathtaking panoramas over mountain sites in the heart of the National Mercantour Park, two itineraries, Circuit de l’Authion and Route de l’Amitié, provide opportunities to explore the defensive structures crowning many strategic sites in our region.
